Dallas takes 7th in a row, matches franchise record
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Jamie Benn scored twice, backup goalie Andrew Raycroft notched his second shutout of the season with 26 saves and the Dallas Stars matched a franchise record with their seventh straight road victory, 4-0 over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Trevor Daley and James Neal also scored for the Stars, who last won seven games in a row away from Dallas in the 2001-02 season.
The Stars are 13-7-1 on the road. The Wild were 8-2-1 in their last 10 games, but they’re now 1-6-3 on the second day of back-to-back games.
Blackhawks 5, Islanders 0
CHICAGO – Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane scored in Chicago’s four-goal second period, leading the Blackhawks to a victory over the road-weary Islanders.
Hossa also had two assists and Patrick Sharp, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Kane each finished with a goal and an assist as Chicago had its biggest offensive output since a 7-5 loss at Colorado on Dec. 13.
The Blackhawks snapped a six-game losing streak against New York with their first victory over the Islanders since a 3-2 road win on Dec. 10, 2002.
New York completed its longest trip of the season – an 11-day itinerary that also included stops in Detroit, Calgary, Edmonton and Colorado – with a 3-2-0 record.
Hurricanes 4, Thrashers 3, OT
RALEIGH, N.C. – Erik Cole scored 2:09 into overtime to lift Carolina over Atlanta.
Tuomo Ruutu, Zac Dalpe and Jeff Skinner also scored for the Hurricanes, who are 5-0-2 in their last seven games as they chase Montreal for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Joe Corvo also had two assists, and Justin Peters won his second straight start.
Devils 6, Lightning 3
NEWARK, N.J. – Jason Arnott scored a lucky go-ahead goal in a five-goal third period and Martin Brodeur made 33 saves to lead the struggling Devils to a victory.
David Clarkson scored twice and Dainius Zubrus, Patrik Elias and Nick Palmieri added a late insurance goals as the Devils won for only the third time in 18 games.
Teddy Purcell, Ryan Malone and Dominic Moore tallied for the Southeast Division-leading Lightning.
Ducks 1, Sharks 0
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Jonas Hiller earned his second straight shutout with 37 saves, Bobby Ryan scored in the second period and the Anaheim Ducks handed the San Jose Sharks their fourth straight loss.
Hiller thwarted three power plays en route to his fourth shutout of the season, the 10th of his career and first against San Jose. He stopped 27 shots in a 6-0 win over Columbus on Friday.
The Sharks have just five goals over their last five games since beating the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Dec. 30. They have taken 129 shots on net over their last 13 periods of hockey, but have just one goal to show for it.
