Roundup: Uniontown races to win over Norwin

The Uniontown girl’s basketball started its non-section game against Norwin with a 10-0 run and never looked back in a 61-38 victory on Tuesday night.

Ahead 14-4 after the first segment, the Red Raiders (9-3) outscored the Knights 24-14 in the second and third quarters.

A quartet of Red Raiders accounted for 50 points, led by Kelsey Sleighter’s 17.

Jessy Madison finished with 13 points for the Red Raiders, while Lydya Dennis and Danasha Harris had 10 each.

Rachel Keto tallied 8 points for the Knights (5-8).

Jefferson-Morgan 49, Frazier 21 – Nicole Shultz recorded a game-high 18 points for the Lady Rockets in a non-section game.

The Lady Rockets outscored the Lady Commodores in each quarter to improve to 5-8.

Christina Schamp and Mariah Hildebrand contributed 8 and 9 points, respectively.

Queennesha Isaac led the Lady Commodores (1-13) with 8 points.

Monessen 64, Geibel Catholic 32 – The Lady Gators held a brief 14-13 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter, but were outscored for the rest of the game.

The Greyhounds (12-0, 6-0) used a 38-6 scoring advantage in the second and third quarter to remain undefeated.

Chelsea Zackal led the Greyhounds with 23 points, while Genna Schrader and Mariah Ward contributed 16 and 12, respectively.

Hannah Lazuka had 11 points for the Lady Gators (4-7, 2-2), while Brittany Rulli posted 10.

Ringgold 48, Albert Gallatin 35 – Ringgold used a 16-2 second quarter to power past Albert Gallatin in a non-section game at home.

Jamie Melzer led all scorers with 14 points, as Ringgold (4-7, 0-3) trailed by three after the first quarter.

Chianti Sivek chipped in 12 points.

Ally Rudolph led the Lady Colonials (1-13, 1-5) with 13 points.

Albert Gallatin returns to the hardwood Thursday to host Kiski.

Boys basketball

Brownsville 64, Beth-Center 47 – The Falcons earned their second section win.

Ahead 32-18 at halftime, the Falcons (6-9, 2-4) embarked on a 24-10 third quarter run to distance themselves.

Derek Jones scored 12 points for the Falcons, while Zack Landman added 11.

Lucas Diethorn finished with 12 points for the Bulldogs (5-7, 0-6).

St. Joseph 67, Geibel Catholic 59 – The Gators suffered their first section loss of the season, falling to 2-1.

The Spartans (11-2, 2-1) rallied from a 20-12 first quarter deficit to tie the game 26 all at halftime.

The teams traded the lead throughout the second half before Brian Henial nailed eight consecutive free throws to give the Spartans a 59-49 lead.

Henial and Eric Romney scored 29 and 14 points, respectively, for the Spartans.

Taylor Nowicki and Mike Noonan paced the Gators with 20 and 17 points, respectively.

California 63, Charleroi 58 – The Trojans outlasted the Cougars with a 25-15 point advantage in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans (12-3, 4-2) rallied from a slight 14-13 deficit to take a 29-22 lead at the half.

The Cougars (4-9, 2-4) responded with a 21-9 run in the third quarter to regain the lead, 43-38.

Tanner Huffman tacked on 24 points for the Trojans, while Brian Fisher and John Tyler had 15 and 10 respectively.

Tyler Corbitt helped the Cougars’ cause with 21 points, while Tony Bristol tossed in 11.
