Good turnout for 4th annual Fish For Life tournament

?The fourth annual Fish For Life tournament was held Saturday, June 25 at the Youghiogheny Reservoir.

The event, which drew 20 bass teams and 15 walleye teams, was dubbed a success, as it raised $1,400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night Walk.

First place in the walleye division went to the team of John Paul Prinkey and Joshua Rugg with five walleye weighing 20.89 pounds.

They also won the big fish “lunker” pot with a walleye weighing 6.13 pounds.

The team of Harvey and Harvey was in second place with two walleye weighing 7.15 pounds, and the duo of Bob Stone and Brian Rieger finished third with two walleye that tipped the scale at 6.78 pounds.

Joe Sommers and Matt Vaivdervolt took fourth place with a bag weighing 5.4 pounds.

Top honors in the bass division went to the team of Brad Weese and Brian Campbell with five bass weighing 11.38 pounds.’

Second place went to Melvin Sines and David Rinker with a bag of five bass weighing 7.96 pounds.

Jake Fazenbaker and Greg Habekorn finished third with three bass weighing 6.73 pounds, and fourth place went to Nick Barren and Kevin Lieberman with five bass weighing 6.47 pounds.

Gary Crayton and Logan Crayton rounded out the first five with a bag of five bass weighing 6.03 pounds.

The lunker prize in the bass division went to the team of Joe and Jim Batronis with a 3.18-pounder.

Steve Popson won the salmon fishing trip to Lake Ontario, which was raffled off. It was donated by Kelly Bob Charters.

Organizers thank the many sponsors and extend special thanks to Jossie Chessino and Debbie Gates for preparing all the food for the tournament and Mark Dunham and Ashley Vanbremen for their help with registraion and launching the boats.

Stocking notes

The Southwest Region of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced the June walleye and bass finglerling stockings.

The Youghiogheny Reservoir was the biggest recipient, receiving 113,600 PH1 walleye finglerlings.

Fayette County’s Green Lick Reservoir received two stockings. The first included 7,364 walleye fry and the second 2,636.

Brownsville’s Luzerne Park lake was recipient of 100 largemouth bass finglerlings.

In Somerset County Quemahoning Reservoir, Lake Somerset and Highpoint Lake recieved 9,000, 10,100 and 13,550 PH1 walleye fingerlings, respectively.

Washington County’s Cross Creek Lake received 9,800 PH1 walleye.

Other walleye stockings in the region included Glendale Lake, Cambria County, 32,000; Keystone Lake, Armstrong County, 9,500 and Hinckston Run Reservoir, Cambria County, 2,100.

Other largemouth bass fingerling stockings included North Park Lake, Allegheny County, 1,875 and Bradys Run Lake, Beaver County, 600.

The Youghiogheny River tailraces received its annual pre-July 4 trout stocking on Friday.
