Robert Rohanna trails by three in West Penn Open

By Jim Downeyheraldstandard.Com 2 min read

?Robert Rohanna felt pretty good after his opening round Monday in the 107th PNC West Penn Open Championship at The Club at Nevillewood, and for good reason.

Rohanna fired a 5-under 67 and is tied with Oakmont’s Sean Knapp in second place, trailing East Vandergrift’s Aaron Williams by three strokes.

Recent Belle Vernon graduate Bo Lustig made the cut after finishing with a 2-over 74. Lustig’s older brother Tyber missed the cut after he finished 11-over 83. Connellsville’s Pete Dzambo also missed the cut after he carded a 7-over 79.

The Waynesburg native opened on No. 10, going out in 2-under 34 with four birdies and two bogeys, while finishing the front nine in 3-under 33 with three birdies and six pars.

“It was better than it looks,” Rohanna said of his opening round. “I hit a lot of good shots I didn’t capitalize on.

“My distance control was good. If I missed a shot, it missed it pin-high.”

As with most rounds, Rohanna left a few shots out on the course.

“I bogeyed No. 13 and 15 (his fourth and sixth holes). I bogeyed No. 15, a par-5. That’s a shot or two right there,” said Rohanna. “I hit two perfect shots on No. 1 and finished with par. I definitely could’ve made a few more birdies.

“I didn’t miss a green after No. 15.”

Rohanna’s play in Tuesday’s first round has him ready for today’s final round.

“I can’t complain (about the way he played). I made a nice putt on No. 17 for a birdie and stuffed it on No. 18 for birdie,” said Rohanna. “It was give-and-take, a little.”
