Raider pair named All-State

Waynesburg Central pitcher Joe Monica and catcher Steve McCaw have been named to the Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association small school (Class AA-A) All-State first team.

The juniors were honored following the Raiders deep runs in the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs.

Monica batted .457 with a .685 on-base percentage, adding 15 RBI, two home runs and eight stolen bases. On the mound, he amassed 91 strikeouts with just 15 walks. He posted a 9-2 record on the year with a save, and 1.00 ERA over 76 innings.

McCaw, a catcher, hit .463 with a .658 batting average. He added 40 RBI and seven home runs.

Both players were named to the O-R All-District First Team. McCaw received WPIAL Player of the Year honors in Class AA and Monica was runner-up for the WPIAL Class AA Pitcher of the Year.
