Family Fishing Program set at Dunlap Lake

By Rod Schoenerheraldstandard.Com 2 min read

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host a Family Fishing Program (FFP) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the pavilion at Dunlap Creek Lake.

An FFP is an educational program designed for families with little or no fishing experience.

Families will learn basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice those skills while fishing together during the program. It’s important to arrive on-time for the start of the program. The first half of the program is instructional. You will learn about fishing safety and manners, how to cast your line and tie knots (and practice both of these skills), basic fishing tackle, laws and regulations, etc.

The second half of the program will provide your family with the opportunity to fish together.

The program is open to all ages; however, it is designed for children ages 5 and up. This is due to the time spent with hands-on instruction. You know your children best, their attention span and capabilities.

The fishing license requirement is waived for participants 16 and older.

Pre-registration is required. Families can register by contacting Mandy Smith online at mirsmith@state.pa.us or by phone at 814-443-9841.

SPORTING CLAYS EVENT: Covered Bridge Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will hold it 5th annual Sporting Clays Event Saturday, Aug. 27 at Hunting Hills Sporting Clays in Dilliner.

The cost is $75 per person.

There will be a 5-man main event, gun raffle drawings, sportsmen’s raffle table and door prizes, plus Lewis Class scoring in Classes AA, A, B & C, individual high overall and runner-up.
