Perry SOI team wins state bowling tournament
Wow, a huge congratulation to Chris McManus and his Wild Bills No. 2 team for winning the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association Tournament. That is just plain awesome.
There were more than 1,500 entries this year and a team from nearby Perryopolis Sons of Italy actually won. Sensational!
Team members: Dennis Keffer, Jr., Joey Balog, John Ritz, Lenny Minnick, Jr. and McManus, captain rolled a whopping 3,618 to just squeak out the top spot from a team out of the Southeast area which rolled 3,605, but those 13 little pins made our local guys the “Big Dogs.”
But, maybe just as nice is the fact that we also had 7th place: Grimm Surveying No. 2 from City Lanes (3,451), and 9th place: Junk Lanes from Perryopolis Sons of Italy (3,430). That makes three teams in the top ten.
Anna Gadd tells me that at the end of the tournament, Wild Bills No. 2 went to the State Convention and received a large trophy for the team, and each member received a beautiful plaque.
MORE SCORES AT STATES — We also had some great bowling in the other categories:

My buddies Dr. Bo Ling and his partner Professor C. M. Hook actually should have won the doubles this year when they shot 1,680 scratch, but they were disqualified. Hook’s ball had two thumbholes, and Ling was caught sanding the only ball he brought with him during the middle of a game.
All Events Handicap: Matt Chalfant was 8th with 2,274 (420 handicap), John Ritz was 10th with 2,266 (297 handicap), George McGavitt was 59th with 2,163 (297 Handicap), and Mathew Wingrove was 62nd with 2,159 (435 handicap). First place was 2,347 (492 handicap). Last place was 2,017 (297 handicap). They paid 771 places.
All Events Scratch: Alan Scabis was 21st with 2,144. First place was 2,232. Last place was 2,101. They paid 27 spots.
The total prize money paid out this year was $239,921.15. I’m not exactly sure who got the 15 cents, but congratulations to all our local guys. The Brownsville Association is proud of each of you.
