Red Raiders back in PIAA playoffs
No one was rooting harder for South Fayette Tuesday night than Uniontown boys basketball coach Rob Kezmarsky.
With a 56-42 victory over New Castle in the semifinals of the WPIAL Boys Basketball Championships, South Fayette will play in the championship finals Friday at the AJ Palumbo Center against Montour.
The Lions’ victory also put the Red Raiders (16-6) into the PIAA Boys Basketball Championships after losing to South Fayette in the quarterfinals. Under the criteria, the top six teams from the WPIAL will qualify for the state playoffs.
“It feels good to be playing basketball in March,” Kezmarsky said. “We’ll know more about who we will play after Friday’s game.”
Kezmarsky gave his team a few days off after losing to the Lions in the quarterfinals, but says they are ready to get back to playing basketball.
“This is really great for the seniors,” Kezmarsky said. “A lot of good teams that were projected to be here at the beginning of the season aren’t. It will also give some big-time playoff experience for our underclassmen.”
Uniontown’s opponent, day and time are to be determined.
