Vulcans rally past Shippensburg, 4-2
California (Pa.) trailed Shippensburg 1-0 at halftime, but the Vulcans rallied with four goals in the second half Thursday night for a victory in the first round of the NCAA men’s soccer tournament at Millersville.
California (12-3-4) now plays Millersville Saturday. The two teams will play for a third time with Millersville winning the previous two matches.
Shippensburg scored late in the first half, and outshot California 11-1 in the first half.
The Vulcans tied the match in the 56th minute on Edin Sabic’s unassisted goal. Tyler Woolum scored four minutes later for a 2-1 advantage. Alex Supplee tied the game for the Red Raiders in the 66th minute, only to have Chris Hunkele score the game-winning goal on a header at 70:51.
Ryan Slaby added an insurance goal in the 80th minute.
Charlie Dagnal turned aside five shots to preserve the victory.
