Frazier senior Sawyer Palonder and Monessen’s Bob Nedley kept contact, but Pittsburgh’s Brent Lopick held off their charge Thursday morning to win the 6th annual Turkey Trot 5K held in downtown Uniontown.

Lopick, formerly of Uniontown, finished first with a winning time of 17:30. Palonder, of Perryopolis, was a close second in 17:37, and Nedley was right on his heels in third place with his time of 17:40.

New Salem’s Nate Edenfield was fourth in 17:56, and Uniontown’s Ryan Teets finished fifth with a time of 18:12.

Laurel Highlands graduate Cassie Wallace, who attends Carnegie Mellon, was the first woman across the finish line, and 19th overall, with a time of 19:28.

Uniontown junior Julie Friend, of Markleysburg, was second in 19:28, and College of Wooster junior Colleen O’Neil, of Chalk Hill, placed third in 19:45.

Jennifer Hoffman was fourth with her time of 20:47, and Waynesburg University senior Michelle Naymick, of Uniontown finished fifth in 21:07.

Walking results were not available at press time.

Over 950 walkers and runners, along with children in the ½-mile Turkey Trot, participated in the race that benefits the Salvation Army.
