Warriors defeat Belle Vernon in non-section golf action
Belle Vernon had five golfers finish under 43 Friday afternoon, but Elizabeth-Forward had four at 40 or better for a 197-208 non-section victory over the Leopards at Butler’s Golf Course Woodside course.
Brad Antal, Patrick Wilsona and Chase Foglia all shot 41 for Belle Vernon. Kirby Manown shot a 42, and Ben Wolfe closed the scoring with a 43.
The Warriors’ Jeremy Moeller was medalist with an even par-36. Bryce Plant scored 38 and Steve Sawczak shot 39. Eric Danko finished with 40 and Anthony Schetis closed the scoring with 44.
Belle Vernon (2-3, 2-2) travels to Duck Hollow Golf Club Tuesday afternoon for a Division I, Section 2 match against Uniontown.
Women’s volleyball
California (Pa.) 3, Southern Indiana 0; California (Pa.) 3, Urbana (Ohio) 0 — The Vulcans opened the Ferris State (Mich.) Invitational with a pair of shutout victories.
California defeated Southern Indiana, 25-15, 25-19, 30-28, and Urbana, 25-19, 25-12, 25-14.
Molly Delaney had 14 kills in the opening match, while Katya Kopanarova had 10 kills and three blocks. Kelly Fromknecht led the offense with 36 assists, adding six digs and four blocks. Sara McMullen had a team-high 11 digs.
Fromknecht continued her strong play in the second match with 23 assists and five service aces.
Waynesburg 3, Pitt-Greensburg 1; Carlow 3, Waynesburg 1 — The Yellow Jackets split the opening-day matches of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge. Waynesburg defeated Pitt-Greensburg 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, but lost to Carlow in four sets, 21-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-17.
The Yellow Jackets (2-1) face Dickinson and Roberts Wesleyan in today’s matches.
