Zavatchen leads Bison
Laurel Highlands graduate Jessica Zavatchen totaled five kills, 71 assists and 17 digs Wednesday night to lead Bethany (W.Va.) to a sweep of a triangular with Chatham and Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
The Bison defeated Chatham in three sets (25-10, 25-7, 25-9) and did the same to the Roaring Lions (25-23, 25-15, 25-12).
Zavatchen had 33 assists against Chatham. Frazier graduate Gena Keebler had two kills in the sweep.
Zavatchen came back with 38 assists against Penn State Fayette. Connellsville graduate Jessica Cole had one kill and an ace against the Roaring Lions.
A junior, Zavatchen now has 2,601 career assists and needs just 35 to surpass the all-time Bethany record of 2,635 set by Acacia Iwaniec (1998-01).
Penn State Fayette split the triangular by defeating Chatham, 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-12).
Bethany is 6-0 overall after opening PAC play with a win against Chatham. Chatham slips to 0-4 overall, and Penn State Fayette goes to 7-2.
Waynesburg wins
Waynesburg swept past visiting Franciscan by the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 29-27.
Lauren Wagner led the Yellow Jackets (4-2) with 14 kills, adding 10 digs. Presley Cupp finished with a team-high 16 digs. Natalie Ranallo had a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs.
Golf
Ashton shoots ace
Rich Ashton scored his first hole-in-one Thursday at Summit Golf Course. Ashton used a 5-iron to ace No. 5, a 148-yard par-3. Chuck Halo witnessed the shot.
