Monessen falls to California, 2-1
Tuesday, September 13th
The California Trojans (1-1-2) hosted the #6 Monessen Greyhounds (4-0) in a Class A, Section 4 showdown.
California senior Skyler Bohem led the Trojans and scored the teams two goals, giving Monessen its first loss of the season.
Monessen’s Coby Matush scored the team’s only goal.
I asked Junior Ben Thomas, what a win over a team like Monessen does for his team.
“It puts us in control of our section, which is a huge plus for us going forward in the season”
The same question was asked to Senior and Captain Will Little.
“Monessen in past years have been a top team, the same was expected this year…for us to go out and dominate the game like we did today against them should show every team, including ourselves, that this year were making a run for the top!”
I also asked Senior player Patrick Tunney what the turning point of the game was.
“We came out and played harder than they did right from the start …we controlled play and had them on their heels. We finally broke through when Skyler Bohem scored his first goal. From there on we had the upper hand.”
California, now 2-1-2 overall, travels to Beth Center on Thursday.
I asked Ben Thomas and Patrick Tunney what challenges Beth Center poses.
“For us to be successful, we need to get the ball in their half of the field and keep it there along with getting good passes together like tonight and keeping possession of the ball.”
“We will have to come out playing hard and hopefully, come out on top.”
Monessen, now 4-1-0, hosts Chartiers Houston on Thursday.
The win puts the California Trojans at the top of the section with a 2-0-1 section record.
