Local girls advance to WPIAL golf finals
Waynesburg Central’s Emily Rohanna shot a 4-over 76 Wednesday, earning medalist honors as well as a berth into the WPIAL Girls Individual Golf Championships.
Rohanna was the lone girl to break 80 at the Division I, Section 1 qualifier held at Timber Ridge Golf Course, going out in 39 and finishing in 37.
Jefferson-Morgan’s Gillian Alexander, just a freshman, finished alone in third with an 84 (42-42).
Penn Trafford had four girls earn a berth into the district championship at Longue Vue Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Mia Barchetti was second with an 81, and was joined by Gia Pro (85), Royce Bachtel (87), and Haley Borkovich (87). Seton-La Salle’s Joey Walz also earned a spot after shooting an 85.
Laurel Highlands’ Kelsey Soom advanced from the section qualifier held at Longue Vue, finishing fourth with a 22-over 94. Uniontown’s Callahan Abel was at the same qualifier, missing the 5-player cut with a 100.
