Everhart Invite set
The annual A.J. Everhart Invitational hosted by Uniontown Saturday on its Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus course will feature 25 teams from western Pennsylvania and Maryland, including all six programs from Fayette County.
The champions of the past two girls varsity races are scheduled to participate, Uniontown’s Julie Friend, the 2010 champion, and Bethel Park’s Hilary Boxheimer, the 2009 champion.
The boys’ field includes Georgetown Prep (Md.), Laurel Highlands, the host Red Raiders, and the Westmoreland County contingent of Franklin Regional, Greensburg Salem, Penn Trafford, Southmoreland, Yough, Greater Latrobe and Greensburg Central Catholic.
The junior high boys begin the day of competition at 8:30 a.m., followed by the girls at 9. The boys varsity race is at 9:30 a.m., and the girls follow at 10. The boys junior varsity race is scheduled for 10:45 a.m., with the girls to follow at 11:15.

Shashura seeded 3rd
Brownsville’s Sarah Shashura is seeded third and will face Beaver’s Raguel Holiday in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA Singles Championship today at Shady Side Academy. The second-place finisher in 2010, Shashura is in the same bracket as Quaker Valley’s Spencer Caravaggio, the No. 2 seed. Shashura lost to Caravaggio in the title match last year.
Golf
Yuhouse advances
Southmoreland junior Brandon Yuhouse secured a berth into the WPIAL Division II Individual Golf Championships by finishing sixth Monday in the Division II, Section 2 qualifier hosted by Mt. Odin Golf Course. Yuhouse tied for sixth after shooting an 8-over 80, matching the target score (course rating plus 10 strokes) for Mt. Odin. The WPIAL finals will be held Monday, Sept. 26, at Treesdale Golf Course.
