Coles fans 12 batters, homers in 1-0 win over B-C

Kaitlyn Coles provides the offense and the defense as Jefferson-Morgan defeated visiting Beth-Center, 1-0, on Monday in Section 2-A action.

Coles struck out 12 batters and hit a home run in the first inning for the Lady Rockets (6-0, 1-0), providing the only run of the day.

Jessica Taylor doubled for Jefferson-Morgan,

Christine Esmond struck out seven, walked two and hit two batters for Beth-Center (0-2, 0-1). Darian Newman doubled.

Jefferson-Morgan returns to action today, hosting Mapletown.

Carmichaels 10, Albert Gallatin 0 (5 innings) — Cameron Grimes pitched a complete game, albeit abbreviated in a non-section game.

Grimes yielded just two hits while striking out two and walking one. Lindsey Osbourne, Sarah Hathaway and Megan Bayles each doubled for the Mikes (5-1). Regina Menhart added a triple.

Shienna Ross took the loss for the Lady Colonials (0-3). She struck out six and walked three.

Carmichaels hosts South Fayette Wednesday.

Belle Vernon 17, Laurel Highlands 0 (5 innings) — Thirteen different players scored at least one run as Haley Bashada pitched a no-hitter for a non-section win.

Bashada struck out eight from the circle for the Lady Leps (4-1). Katie Anna hit a home and added two RBI as Bashada doubled with three RBIs. Natalie Bashada drove in four runs on three hits.

Alex Peton took the loss for the Fillies (0-3). She struck out one and walked three in two innings.

Belle Vernon hosts Greensburg Salem today as Laurel Highlands travels to Yough.

High school baseball

Yough 4, Uniontown 3 — With runners at the corners, Yough loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. A pop-up fell into play for a single, scoring a run and ending the game.

Yough (3-3, 1-0) started the Section 2-AAA portion of the schedule with a win, as Brad Stangroon struck out three and walked one in a complete game.

Tyler Mayers took the loss for Uniontown (0-2, 0-1), allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking one batter.

Josh Nypaver doubled for the Red Raiders, who host Derry Wednesday.

Fort Cherry 7, Brownsville 4 — Fort Cherry scored four runs in the sixth inning, turing a 4-3 deficit into a three-run lead.

Tanner Garry went the distance for the Rangers (3-3, 1-0), striking out nine and walking two as Kyle Witzberger doubled twice.

Noah Saxon pitched into the seventh inning, taking the losee while fanning eight batters and walking three for the Falcons (4-2, 0-1). Saxon, along with Phil Gnus doubled to lead the offense.

Brownsville travels to Frazier Wednesday.

Beth-Center 10, Mapletown 0 (6 innings) — Mike Knox and Josh Miller combined for a no-hitter in Section 1-A.

The duo combined for seven strikeouts and no walks for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0). Ian Petrosky, Andrew Nickler, Lucas Zellie and Knox each hit a double.

Tyler Rencler pitched five innings for the Maples (2-3, 0-1), taking the loss.

Beth-Center travels to Carmichaels Wednesday.

Carmichaels 17, West Greene 4 (5 innings) — Carmichaels exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Brandon Wallce took the win as he struck out nine and walked one to lead the Mikes (1-4, 1-0).

Nick Clarke doubled in first and tripled in the fourth inning to power the offense.

Donnie White took the loss for the Pioneers (2-4, 0-1). West Greene travels to Jefferson-Morgan Wednesday.

Boys tennis

Brownsville 5, California 0 — Brownsville swept California in Section 1-AA play.

Every match was won in straight sets as Ryan Hartz, Cameron Smith and Nic Calveresi picked up singles wins for the Falcons (3-5, 1-5).

The parings of Devan Drilek and Scott Gardner and Nick Zelner and Josh Zahuranic earned wins in doubles play.

California falls to 0-7 for the year, 0-7 section.

Brownsville hosts Mt. Pleasant today in a make-up match.
