The Yellow Jackets hit the road on Saturday for a non-conference game at the College of Wooster.

Both teams struggled from the field, but the Fighting Scots were much more productive from the free throw line as they picked up a 55-51 win over Waynesburg.

Wooster (4-3) connected on 21-of-29 free throws, while Waynesburg (3-6) made just nine of 13 attempts from the foul line.

The Yellow Jackets out-performed their opposition on the floor, making 18 field goals, including six three-pointers, to the Scots’ 15 baskets, four of which were from 3 point range.

Along with their free throw shooting, the Fighting Scots held a major advantage on the glass, pulling down 63 rebounds, to the Jackets’ 44.

One bright spot for the visiting team was its typically strong defense, which forced 24 turnovers, 14 of which came on Jacket steals.

Brittany Spencer was the only Waynesburg player to reach double digits in scoring, going for a team-high 12 points on the day. Junior Elaine Hasek pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, while senior Jessi Drayer swiped away a game-high four steals.

Waynesburg will host La Roche on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Hiram 74, Waynesburg 62 — Hiram College outscored Waynesburg University, 41-21, in the second half on its way to a 74-62 overall victory against the Yellow Jackets in a non-conference matchup at Price Gymnasium.

Waynesburg shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the field for the game and had four players score in double-figures.

Jason Propst led the team with 18 points on six-of-10 shooting (60.0 percent) to go along with seven rebounds. Casey Hope was second in scoring with 12 points and Jacob Fleegle and Thomas Ellis each added 11 points. Hope also grabbed a team-high eight boards.
