Berardi tops 1,000 points in Lady Mikes’ win
It was a night to remember for senior guard Morgan Berardi, who passed the 1,000 point mark for her career in Carmichaels’ 48-35 win over visiting Charleroi.
Berardi becomes the 6th player in school history to score 1,000 points and reached it by scoring 18 points on the night. Her teammate Amanda Brown collected a game-high 20 points adding 10 rebounds as well.
Charleroi’s (5-2) Mia Woytovich lead the Lady Cougars with 11 points in the defeat.
Carmichaels (6-1) heads back into action in the Laurel Highlands Christmas Tournament on the 27th and 28th.
West Greene 40, Waynesburg Central 34 — West Greene held off visiting Waynesburg Central in Friday night’s non-section action by a score of 40-34.
Emily Stoll had 14 points with Madison Raber collecting 13 points of her own and 11 rebounds in the Lady Pioneers (5-1) victory. Emily Courtwright also had 11 points for West Greene.
Waynesburg Central’s (2-5) Danielle Jacobs had 12 points in the loss.
West Greene is back in action on Dec 27. vs OLSH at Bentworth at 6 p.m. while Waynesburg Central heads to the Laurel Highlands tournament for a 9 a.m. game on Dec. 28.
Thomas Jefferson 54, Brownsville 31 – The Lady Falcons dropped Fridays Section 4-AAA game to visiting Thomas Jefferson by a score of 54-31.
Madison Zimcosky was the bright spot for Brownsville who fall to 2-3 on the season.
The Lady Falcons are off for the holiday break and will return to action on Jan. 3 at Elizabeth-Forward.
Boys basketball
Charleroi 80, West Greene 27 — Charleroi’s Matthew Indorante stole the show Friday night as he collected 35 points in his team’s 80-27 rolling of West Greene. Eric Johnson and Matt Carr each had 10 points as well for visiting Charleroi (3-0, 3-2). Beau Jackson led the way for West Greene (0-3, 0-5) with 7 points in the defeat.
The Pioneers next take on Hundred (W.Va.) at home on Dec. 28.
In other local action, Yough downed Southmoreland 70-61 in Section 3-AAA play while South Park topped Waynesburg Central 77-54 in Section 5-AAA.
