Trojans move on to playoffs after Section 4-AA win
The California boys basketball team will continue on to playoffs after earning a Section 4-AA win at home Friday, defeating Charleroi 43-38.
The Trojans led 8-7 after the first quarter, 17-11 at the half, and 35-31 after three quarters.
Tanner Huffman led California (11-11, 5-7) with 15 points. Brian Fisher was close behind with 12 points.
Tony Bristol led scoring for Charleroi (7-14, 3-9) with 12 points.
Brownsville 68, Beth-Center 48 — Brownsville made playoffs with a Section 4-AA win on the road, defeating the Bulldogs.
The Falcons led 17-6, 36-10, and 51-32 at the quarter breaks.
Cole Novotney scored a game-high 18 points for Brownsville (13-9, 5-7). Also in double figures were Christian Floyd with 14, and C.J. Gaddis with 12 points.
Mike Knox led Beth-Center (6-16, 0-12) with 13 points, and Zach Miller added 11.
Girls basketball
Avella 54, West Greene 43, OT — The Lady Pioneers lost a Section 3-A game at Avella in overtime.
The Lady Eagles took an early lead, outscoring West Greene 11-10 in the first quarter. The Lady Pioneers rallied to take a 21-20 lead at halftime. Avella took back the lead, leading 32-27 at the end of the third quarter.
West Greene outscored the Lady Eagles 14-9 in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 41-41.
Cheyenne Miller led West Greene (11-1, 5-7) with 12 points. Madison Raber was close behind with 10.
Olivia English scored a game-high 27 points for Avella (10-12, 5-7). Julia Carlisle also scored in double digits with 11 points.
Beth-Center 50, Brownsville 29 — The Lady Bulldogs earned a Section 4-AA win at home against Brownsville.
Beth Center led 13-6 after the first quarter, 28-16 at the half, and 41-23 after three quarters.
Ashtyn Guty led Brownsville (2-17, 1-11) with nine points.
Lindsey Huhn scored a team-high 18 points for Beth-Center (15-6, 9-3). Also in double figures were Anna Shashura with 13 points and Anna Bartman with 11.
