Colonial 3 offense comes alive in 19-2 win
Colonial 3 pounded out 11 hits, including Zach Hibbs 3-run home run, and Farmington helped the cause with 13 walks in a 19-2 Fayette American Legion victory Thursday night.
Hibbs’ home run invoked the 15-run mercy rule with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. He went 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored.
Jake Bevard, Phil Gnus and Tyler Spohn all had two singles, while Fred Heiser walked four times and scored four runs.
Derek Johnson went the distance for his first win of the season, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Mike Haines had the lone extra-base hit for Farmington with a double.
Colonial 3 (1-1) returns to action Monday with a road game at Connellsville.

Caileigh’s 8, Dunbar 1 — The visitors scored two runs in the first and a pair more in the third, and capped the offense with four runs in the top of the seventh in the league opener for both teams.
Dave Gonos accounted for the first-inning runs with a two-run home run. Gonos added a single to offensive output.
Justin Corso had three singles and an RBI. Nick Clarke added two singles and an RBI, and Don Hilenbrant finished with two singles and two RBI. Casey Kupets had a double in the win.
Marty Fagler went the distance, scattering two hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Don Fouss took the loss, striking out seven and walking one.
