Concordia-Selma claims USCAA Women’s title
Rahida Young scored 20 points as Sharmika Hayes and Teagra Clifton scored 13 points each off the bench in Concordia-Selma’s 65-44 win over Selma Saturday to claim the USCAA Women’s Championship at Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus.
Concordia-Selma dominated the boards with a 42-31 advantage en route to the win while shooting 40 percent from the floor.
Marquita McMurray paced Selma with 12 points and five rebounds. Ashley Henley added 10 points.
Selma shot 30 percent from the field.
Cincinnati-Clermont 64, Rochester 50 — In the consolation game, the Lady Cougars pulled out a win behind a 19-point effort from Stacie Lee and 12 more off the bench scored by Ashley Keith.
Despite shooing just over 60 percent from the line, the Lady Cougars shot well from the field (41.7 percent). They bullied their way to a 51-33 edge in rebounds.
Sam Tomaschko led Rochester with 21 points as Lexy Newsom scored 11. Rochester shot just 25 percent from the floor.
Men’s basketball
St. Joseph’s (Vt.) 98, Vermont Tech 62 — Ramel Anderson scored a game-high 30 points as St. Joseph’s cruised to an easy win in the third-place game in the USCAA Men’s Division II Championship.
Brendan Rios scored 26 points off the bench as Dre Anderson and Dane Jobst scored 10 points each as St. Joseph’s shot 47 percent from the floor, including 11 three-pointers.
Kevin Carr paced the Knights with 20 points and Yawo Eko Agbodenou added 14 points.
Ave Marie 75, Apprentice 54 — Ave Marie opened a 34-27 lead at the half and extended it in the second 20 minutes of play, behind Kiel Lewis’ 35 points.
Mike Coyle added 13 points as Ave Marie took advantage of good shooting, hitting 46 percent from the floor.
Trevin Andrews scored 12 points for Apprentice as Lewis Archer scored 11 off the bench and Isaih Harrison scored 10.
Andrews 72, Berkeley 58 — Tyler Wooldridge scored 28 points to lead Andrews to the USCAA Men’s Division II title.
Both teams shot nearly the same from the field as Andrews shot 43 percent and Berkeley converted on nearly 45 percent of its shots.
Andrews built a lead on turnovers, forcing 26 while committing just six.
Jerome Murray added 18 points for the Cardinals.
Jose Stable led Berkeley with 17 points.
Elijah Craig and Danzel Whyte scored 10 points each.
