Oakwood wins USCAA D-I title
Oakwood University and Rochester College battled back-and-forth in the Division I USCAA men’s basketball championhip Saturday at Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus with the Ambassadors pulling out a 54-51 victory.
Oakwood’s Austin Doggette led all scorers with 21 points. Doggette was 6-for-11 from behind the arc.
The Warriors’ Dramell Hogan led his team with 19 points.
With the scored tied at 49, Doggette made a 3-pointer and Oakwood held Rochester down defensively.
The game featured 14 lead changes and six ties. The Ambassadors shot 33 percent from the charity stripe.
College baseball
California University of Pennsylvania 8, Tiffin (Ohio) 4 — Kyle Petty threw his third complete game to help California University of Pennsylvania to a victory over Tiffin (Ohio) Sunday at the Savannah Invitational.
Perry improved to 4-0 after allowing four earned runs on six hits in nine innings. He had a career-high six strikeouts and walked one.
With the game tied 4-4 in the ninth, the Vulcans (8-6) scored four runs on three hits and two walks.
Carmichaels’ Chuck Gasti had a sacrifice fly and Troy Handza delivered a two-run double.
Cal plays Tiffin today at 11 a.m.
Women’s tennis
No. 11 California University of Pennsylvania 8, No. 26 Nova Southeastern 1 — The Vulcans won all six singles match en route to a victory over the Sharks in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The No. 6 ranked team of Martina Rubesova and Franziska Steinhardt win an 8-5 match over Alexandra Johansson and Austin Lavallii.
Rubesova defeated Johannson, 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 in No. 1 singles.
The Vulcans face No. 3 Lynn today in Boca Raton, Fla. at 2 p.m.
