Palonder, Slusser win Boston Beanery 5K Run

Don Slusser, of Monroeville, is the first walker to cross the finish line at the annual Boston Beanery 5K Run/Walk event held Sunday morning at the Uniontown Mall. Slusser won the 5K walk in 31:07.

Tammy Slusser, of Monroeville, is the first female runner to cross the finish line at the annual Boston Beanery 5K Run/Walk event Sunday morning at the Uniontown Mall and sponsored by the Fayette County Community Action Agency. Slusser finished with a time of 20:14.

Frazier senior Sawyer Palonder ran away from the field Sunday morning, winning the 20th annual Boston Beanery 5K Run/Walk in 16:51.

New Salem’s Nate Edenfield finished 52 seconds behind the Perryopolis resident. Pittsburgh’s Brent Lopick was third in 18:21.

Monroeville’s Tammy Slusser easily won the women’s 5k run, completing the 3.1-mile course around Uniontown Mall in 20:14.

Uniontown’s Wendy Moore was second in 21:40, with Mount Pleasant’s Dana Newlin 10 seconds behind in third.

Connellsville’s Leanne Kurpiel won the women’s 5K walk in 31:20. Dunbar’s Debbie McGee was in second with a time of 33:06, and Hopwood’s Gloria Antoon was third in 33:23.

Monroeville’s Don Slusser won the men’s 5K walk in 31:07, edging West Newton’s Tim Williams by three seconds. Connellsville’s Matthew Ptacek was close behind in third place with a time of 31:13.
