Bocetti named 2011 Recovery Champion
California University of Pennsylvania associate professor Dr. Carol Bocetti has received a 2011 Recovery Champion award from the U.S. First and Wildlife Service.
The award honors agency employees and partners who have made efforts to protect endangered and threatened species of fish, wildlife and plants.
Bocetti leads the recovery team for an endangered songbird species, the Kirtland’s warbler.
The Kirtland’s warbler is found only in Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. Bocetti’s research has been key in the growth of the warbler population.
Bocetti has been a member of the Kirtland’s warbler recovery team since 1998.
Fifty-six teams and nine individuals were honored as Recovery Champions for work to conserve species ranging from the polar bear in Alaska to the Appalachian elktoe mussel and spotfin chub in North Carolina.
