High School Softball
Yough 15, Uniontown 5 — The Lady Cougars scored 15 runs on just seven hits, to win a Section 4-AAA game at Uniontown.
Uniontown’s Jenna Nypaver had a double, along with Jordan Gibson.
The Lady Raiders (1-8, 2-10) play their last game today at Laurel Highlands.
Jefferson-Morgan 13, Mapletown 1 — Kaitlyn Coles struck out nine, leading the Lady Rockets to a Section 2-A victory at Mapletown.
Coles also had a double, along with teammates Jessica taylor and Madison Ludrosky.
Jefferson-Morgan (8-1, 15-1) will host Carmichaels today, while Mapletown (0-9, 1-14) hosts West Greene.
Brownsville 9, Beth-Center 4 — The Lady Falcons scored nine runs on 14 hits on their way to a non-section win over visiting Beth-Center.
Brownsville’s Kayla Hetrick, Miranda Nichols, and Kari Walters each had a double. Brandi Fisher also had three RBI for the Lady Falcons.
Beth-Center (2-7, 3-10) travels to California today, while Brownsville (7-3, 10-5) hosts Bentworth.
Frazier 3, West Greene 1 — Frazier’s Andrea Lash struck out five, leading the Lady Commodores to a non-section victory at home against West Greene.
Monica Joseph had a triple for Frazier, while teammate Kaitlyn Brown had a triple.
Paige Moninger took the loss for West Greene, but managed to leg out a double along with Lady Pioneer teammates Megan Reeves and Morgan Striver.
West Greene (4-5, 10-8) plays again today at Mapletown, Frazier (6-2, 9-4) hosts Monessen.
Carmichaels 3, Waynesburg Central 0 — Erica Burns struck out four on Carmichaels’ way to a non-section victory at Waynesburg.
Jordan Moore took the loss for the Lady Raiders, pitching a no-hitter through the fifth inning, when Carmichaels took the lead.
The Lady Mikes (9-0, 18-1) travel to Jefferson-Morgan today, while Waynesburg Central (6-4, 7-8) hosts Southmoreland.
Mount Pleasant 3, Belle Vernon 2 — The Lady Vikings took an early lead, scoring all three of their runs in the top of the first inning, to win a non-section game at Belle Vernon.
Leigha Pehrson took the win for Mount Pleasant, and also had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double.
Haley Bashada took the loss the Lady Leopards, but still managed to strike out seven.
Belle Vernon (6-2, 13-5) is home today against Elizabeth Forward.
High School Baseball
Penn-Trafford 9, Laurel Highlands 2 — Penn-Trafford scored nine runs on 11 hits to win a Section 2-AAAA game at Laurel Highlands.
Mike Bochnak had a double for the Mustangs.
Tyler Smith and Drew Gordish each had a double for the Warriors. Smith also had the only home run of the game.
Laurel Highlands (1-8, 2-13) travels to Norwin on Wednesday.
Uniontown 4, Ringgold 1 — Uniontown’s Zack Stashick struck out eight, leading the Radiers to a Section 2-AAA win over visiting Ringgold.
Michael Haines had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double. Haines went two-for-three, and also had two RBI.
Uniontown (2-8, 3-10) plays again today at home against Yough.
