The Laurel Highlands Fillies soccer team ended its season on a high note, celebrating Senior Night with an 8-0 shutout over cross-town rival Uniontown.

The Fillies (2-8, 6-9-1) picked up all of their goals using the one-two punch of senior Anna Pirl and sophomore Kaylee Rabatin. Pirl closed out her Fillies career scoring five goals, with Rabatin collecting the other three.

“All the girls gave a great effort tonight,” Fillies coach Jess DuBois said. “Our defense was working well tonight. Everyone got to the ball quickly. Uniontown has a couple of girls that are fast, but our girls did a good job of staying on top of them.”

The Mustangs picked up their first goal at 37:07 of the first half. Pirl was tackled hard driving to the goal, resulting in a penalty kick which she easily converted to get the Fillies on the board. Pirl struck again about three minutes later, taking an inbound pass from the corner and scoring from nearly point blank range. That goal came at the 34:39 mark of the first half.

Rabatin picked up her first goal of the night on a looping shot at the 24:23 mark of the first half.

Uniontown (0-12, 0-16) played hard but could not generate much offense against the Fillies. They did receive an indirect kick at the 9:15 mark of the first half, but Haley Peck’s shot was turned away, allowing the Fillies to take a 3-0 lead at the half.

“We have some good players, but Laurel Highlands has a lot of experienced seniors,” Uniontown coach Lara-Kristine Dowling said. “I liked how we hustled tonight. We have a lot of kids returning. I think we have a good foundation to build on next year.”

In the second half, the Fillies started to find the cracks in the Uniontown defense by getting off at least 15 shots on goal. Rabatin picked up her second goal off a penalty kick with the goal coming at 31:31.

Rabatin got loose again for a shot at 29:33, but missed by kicking it over the crossbar. She got behind the Lady Raiders defense for another shot at 27:07, but missed wide right. Rabatin got a third consecutive shot on goal and this time connected at 22:53 giving the Fillies a 5-0 lead.

Rabatin missed another shot at 21:24, followed by a miss from Pirl at 20:25. About a minute later, Pirl scored her third goal of the night at 19:13. Nearly six minutes later Pirl scored again off a feed from Rabatin at 13:07 and picked up her final goal for the Fillies at 5:43.
