By Heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

The Mustangs worked hard in Monday’s playoff match at Mars, but ultimately fell short of pulling the upset, losing 3-2.

The Planets’ Adam Matale scored the first goal with 7:15 on the clock in the first half.

Mars also scored the first two goals in the second half as Spencer Posey (33:17) and Matt White (19:26) game the Planets a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs scored both of their goals in the final 10 minutes of the game. Ryan Gesso scored with 9:55 on the clock, and teammate Drew Deberry headed in a ball with 1:06 left in the game to slice the margin to one.

Laurel Highlands’ coach Zach Sipe was understandably disappointed with the loss.

“We had our chance, but unfortunately it didn’t work out,” Sipe said.

Laurel Highlands ends the season with an 11-7-2 record. Mars continues to the quarterfinals with a record of 16-2-1.
