Zavatchen’s record

Laurel Highlands graduate Jessica Zavatchen dished out her 4,000th career assist Wednesday night when Bethany (W.Va.) swept past Pitt-Greensburg, 3-0.

Earlier in the evening, the Bison defeated Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, 3-0.

Zavatchen, who broke the single-season record for assists in each of the previous three years, set her 4,000th assist in the third set win over the Bobcats. She improved the mark to 4,006 by the end of the doubleheader.

Taylor Cassidy turned nine of those assists into kills.

Golf

Tallerico cards ace

Darrell Tallerico, of Uniontown, scored the first hole-of-one of his career on Aug. 18 on Butler’s Golf Course’s Woodside course.

Tallerico used a 7-iron to ace No. 9, a 144-yard par-3. Dave Byers, Glenn Miller and John Maczko witnessed the shot.
