Brownsville rolls over Bentworth, 13-3
Noah Saxon had a highlight day as his Brownsville squad rolled over Bentworth, 13-3, in Section 2-AA action Wednesday.
Saxon was strong on the mound going five innings, striking out a batter and only walking a single batter.
He also went 4-for-4 with five RBI’s at the plate.
Shane Roebuck had a double for the Falcons and teammate Brandon Furlong had a home run to put Bentworth away in only five innings.
Monessen 15, Frazier 13 -Monessen and Frazier battled back and forth but visiting Monessen out slugged the Commodores in Section 2-A play.
Zach Nastowksi, Chaise Bertocci, and Roger Cline all had doubles with Travis Sanner having a home run but it wasn’t enough as Fraziers four errors in the field proved costly.
Nick Smalich suffered the loss.
Carmichaels 13, Avella 3 — Carmichaels needed little time to take care of Avella as they scored 13 runs in three innings to give them the victory over the Section 1-A rival.
Corey Fuller had a nice day on the mound striking out five Avella batters and walking four.
Josh Mundell and Ryan Zalar each had triples for the Mikes who collected 13 hits on the afternoon as a team.
Walt Kopko took the loss for Avella.
Waynesburg Central 11, McGuffey 1 — Waynesburg Central had big day from the top of its lineup as its top four hitters went a combined 10-10 in a victory over host McGuffey.
Willy Ziefel and Aaron Hill each had triples in the win with Ziefel went 4-for-4 with two RBI’s and Hill went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s as well.
Tyler Morris picked up the victory on the mound as he recorded six strikeouts.
Jefferson-Morgan 19, West Greene 6 — Jefferson-Morgan fell behind early but went on a tear in the fifth inning to give them the victory over Section 1-A for West Greene.
West Greene was leading 6-5 going into the bottom of the fifth but Jefferson-Morgan scored 14 runs in the inning to give them the victory via the mercy rule.
Jefferson-Morgan’s Logan Bowman had a grand-slam with a total of five RBI’s on the day.
Austin Clark picked up the victory, striking out six West Greene batters.
High school softball
Uniontown 3, Derry Area 2 -Leighlynn Guthrie continued to lead Uniontown, and it dropped Section 4-AAA foe Derry.
Guthrie sat down 11 Derry batters and gave up only five hits in the game.
She also had a home run in the contest to help her cause.
Marie Moyner took the loss for Derry.
West Greene 12, California 2 — Bailey Bennington had an excellent afternoon as she dominated on both the mound and at the plate as her West Greene squad blew past California in Section 2-A play.
Bennington went five innings, striking out nine California batters and not walking a single one.
At the plate she went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple accounting for four RBI’s.
West Greene’s Emily Stoll also had a nice day at the plate as she also had a double and triple resulting in three RBI’s.
California’s Christina Puhnaty took the loss.
Mount Pleasant 2, Albert Gallatin 0 — Mount Pleasant only needed one run as they held visiting Albert Gallatin to two hits in a Section 4-AAA match-up.
Ashley Tostisil was strong on the mound for the Lady Vikings as she struck out six batters, only walking one.
Diana Delorenzo suffered the loss for Albert Gallatin.
High school tennis
Brownsville 3, Washington 2 — The Brownsville boys picked up adecision at Washington in high school tennis action.
Ryan Hartz took care of Washginton’s Zach Ross with ease, 6-2, 6-2.
The Falcons’ Nic Calvaresi also had little trouble with his match as he outlasted Devin Mark Spruill 6-3, 6-0.
Tyler Bettie had the only singles victory for Washington, as he defeated Brownsville’s Jake Koltiska in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Brownsville split the doubles matches sealing the victory for the Falcons. Zane McShane and Derek Lent from Brownsville took out Jason D’Alessandro and Alex Beishel, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 while Washington’s Troy Frazier and Brady Ross slide by Nick Gardner and Brad Britvich 6-2, 6-2.

Girls track & field
Waynesburg Central 117, Beth-Center 21; Waynesburg Central 122, Jefferson-Morgan 14 — The Lady Raiders took every first-place finish against the Lady Rockets and all but one against the Lady Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon for a Section 6-AA triangular sweep at home.
Beth-Center’s Erin Pirt won the high jump, clearing 4-8 for the lone non-Waynesburg first-place finish in the three-way meet.
Richelle Tharp swept all three throwing events against both teams, winning the javelin (128-5), shot put (33-7½), and discus (88-9).
Skylar Braga (100, 12.84; triple jump, 30-9), Michelle Cesa (100 high hurdles, 17.16; 300 intermediate hurdles, 54.58), and Ally Younken (1,600, 6:25.71; 3,200, 14:40) all won two individual events for the Lady Raiders. Jana Fox (400, 1:11.34), Danielle Jacobs (800, 2:43.90), Annekah Marx (200, 28.18), Caitlyn Brooks (long jump, 14-11½), and Jordan Shelestak (pole vault, 6-0) also finished first against both teams. Brooks won the high jump against Jefferson-Morgan.
