Brownsville boys, girls split meet with West Greene

The West Greene boys slipped past Brownsville, 79-62, while the Lady Falcons breezed by the Lady Pioneers, 103-37, in Section 6-AA track & field action Thursday afternoon at Waynesburg Central.

Cordel Bowman (400, 56.7; 800, 2:29), Andrew Frye (300 intermediate hurdles, 54.16), Brandon Seaton-Young (3,200, 13:32), and Damon Green (shot put, 37-9; discus, 115-3) had individual first-place finishes for the Pioneers (2-6). West Greene won the 3,200 relay (10:24) and 1,600 relay (4:04).

Byron Mayers (100, 11.34; 200, 24.42), Zach Ruffcorn (1,600, 5:51), Nick Despot (javelin, 125-4; high jump, 5-4), Marcellous Grooms (110 high hurdles, 21.56), and Brandon Myrga (long jump, 16-8; triple jump, 37-0) all finished first for the Falcons (0-8).

Brownsville also won the 400 relay in 48.90 seconds.

Jessica Black (400, 1:06.22) and Ashley Coss (javelin, 56-11) had individual first-place finishes for West Greene (3-5). The Lady Pioneers won the 3,200 relay (11:37).

Maris Seto had a strong outing for Brownsville (6-2), winning the long jump (15-2), triple jump (30-3), and high jump (4-10). She also ran on the winning 400 relay (55.25).

Asya Settles (shot put, 33-0; discus, 65-5), Kara Rohlf (3,200, 13:55; 1,600, 6:22), Jenna Shumar (100 high hurdles,17.69), Alexandra Woods (100, 12.9; 200, 27.8), and Whitney Ptak (300 intermediate hurdles, 50.22) had first-place finishes for the Lady Falcons. The also won the 1,600 relay (4:34).

Brownsville faces Bentworth next Tuesday at Washington, while West Greene faces Beth-Center at California. Both teams will participate in the Section 6-AA Championships at California on Thursday.
