Lady Antelopes breeze past West Greene, 51-23
The Avonworth defense held the West Greene girls to single digits in each quarter Thursday night as the Lady Antelopes breezed to a 51-23 victory in the first night of the Bentworth Christmas Tournament.
Avonworth (3-2) advances to the title game tonight against the host Lady Bearcats, who easily defeated Mapletown, 42-12. West Greene (4-2) plays Mapletown in the consolation game.
The Lady Antelopes led 12-4, 25-8 and 38-16 at the quarter breaks.
Madison Raber led the Lady Pioneers with nine points.
Mackenzie Mayernik scored a game-high 21 points for Avonworth.
Boys basketball
The Belle Vernon boys scored all the points they needed in the first half Thursday night, as the Leopards handily defeated Bentworth, 84-38, in the first day of the Charleroi Federal Holiday Tournament.
The Leopards (3-2) led 29-9, 51-18 and 73-28 at the quarter breaks.
Jason Capco led Belle Vernon with a game-high 23 points. Brett Lewis added 11, and Travis Snyder finished with 10.
Damon Petrola-Bakos finished with 13 to lead the Bearcats. Angelo Rios-Lopez added 12.
Belle Vernon plays the host Cougars tonight at 9 p.m.
