Frazier wins Geibel Tip-Off Tournament

By The 1 min read

The title game was nearly a month from the opening round, and the Frazier boys returned home Sunday with the championship trophy from the Geibel Catholic Tip-Off Tournament with a 62-45 win over West Greene.

Bad weather led to postponement of the first day of the season-opening tournament, and Sunday was the first open day all four programs had available to finish play.

Mapletown edged the host Gators, 52-50, in the consolation game.

The Commodores built an 18-2 lead after the first quarter, and led 24-10 at halftime. Frazier held the edge in the second half, as well, 38-35.

Roger Cline scored a game-high 20 points for the Commodores. Charlie Manack finished with 14, and Alvin Ross added 10.

Ben Carlisled led the Pioneers with 16. Craig Weaver scored 12, and Bray Jackson finished with 11.

The Maples trailed at the half, 23-22, after Geibel rallied in the second quarter. Mapletown pushed back into the lead after three quarters, 39-37. The teams matched output in the fourth quarter, 13-13.

Ben Boone led Mapletown with 16. Dereck Riggleman added 15, and Dana White had 10. Matt Mammarella had a double-double for the Gators with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Kushnar added 10 points.
