Norwin too much for LH

Justin Kostelnik won four events, although it wasn’t enough as Laurel Highlands lost, 90-75, to Norwin in non-section swimming action Tuesday.

Kostelnik won the 100 backstroke in 54.68, which tied a pool record. He was first in the 200 IM at 2:02.18 and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay with Lucas Thomas, Daniel Keith and Caleb Rutbardt in 1:53.81.

Kostelnik swam with Logan Knoyer, Jacob Hughes and Keith to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.38.

Hughes qualified for the WPIAL Championships in winning the 200 freestyle in 2:02.14. Kyoner won the 100 butterfly in 59.41.

Norwin’s Tyler Dempsey earned victories in the 50 freestyle (23.37) and the 100 freestyle (51.20).

The Knights’ Kevin Henderson won the 500 freestyle in 5:46.39.

The Mustangs fall to 4-1, and compete against Steel Valley Thursday at Uniontown Area High School’s pool.

Girls swimming

Norwin 81, Laurel Highlands 50 — The Fillies’ Emily Yarish won four events, but the Lady Knights were too much in non-section action.

Yarish joined Mackenzie Rabatin, Chloe Faris and Brooke Mansberry to win the 200 medley relay, and also won the 200 freestyle relay in joining forces with Rabatin, Mansberry and Karlie Valek.

Yarish won the 50 freestyle in 25.57 and the 100 freestyle in 55.44.

Rabatin won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.95 and the 100 backstroke in 1:05.10.

Norwin’s Rachel Harrison won the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.31 and Jessica Wunderley won the 100 butterfly in 1:09.71 for the Lady Knights.

The Fillies drop to 1-4, and swim against Steel Valley Thursday at Uniontown Area High School’s pool.
