Connellsville Legion takes doubleheader from Belle Vernon

Connellsville swept a doubleheader from host Belle Vernon Monday night with a 5-4 victory in the first game and a 8-5 win in the nightcap in Fayette American Legion baseball action.

Connellsville relied on the excellent pitching of Trevor Farrell in the first game. Farrell struck out an impressive 13 batters over seven innings, while giving up six hits.

Connellsville’s Grant Witt singled three times and had two RBI, while Garrett Brooks legged out a triple.

In the second game, Brooks used his speed once again for two triples as his Connellsville (6-4) squad completed the sweep. Brooks also scored three runs.

Brock Bonadio had two hits and scored twice, while Grant Wortman also helped out at the plate with three RBI for Connellsville.

Ty Henry came on in the seventh in relief of starter Ryan Huey, who struck out six batters. Henry picked up the save, striking out two of the final three Belle Vernon batters.
