Cal softball to host Atlantic Region tournament

The California (Pa.) softball team earned the top seed in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA Division II Tournament, and will host the four-team regional at Lilley Field on Friday through Sunday.

The Vulcans open against eighth-seeded and CIAA champion Chowan (N.C.) on Friday at 1 p.m. Lock Haven, the fifth seed, plays fourth-seeded West Chester at 3:30 p.m.

Shippensburg, the second seed, will host the other regional, and will face seventh-seeded Bloomsburg. WVIAC champion West Virginia State plays PSAC champion Kutztown.

The winners of Friday’s game play 10:30 a.m. on Friday with the loser dropping into the double elimination tournament for a game at 3:30 p.m. The losers from the opening day play at 1 p.m.

The winning teams from Saturday meet Sunday at 1 p.m., and will play a second game at 3:30 p.m. should the team that emerges from the loser’s bracket wins.

The winners of both regional tournaments advance to the NCAA Super Regionals to play a best-of-3 series on May 17-18 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
