Tomlin up to tricks?

By Ron Musselman for The 2 min read

BALTIMORE — Did Steelers coach Mike Tomlin try to trip Ravens return man Jacoby Jones?

Only Tomlin knows for sure.

Shortly after the Steelers scored their first touchdown in the third quarter to cut the Ravens lead to six points, Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 73 yards.

Tomlin had his back turned to the play and Tomlin appeared to be watching the scoreboard. He also had his right foot on the field, but pulled it back as Jones approached him on the runback near the left sideline.

Jones eventually was dragged down from behind by Cortez Allen at the Pittsburgh 27.

Later, after seeing the replay on the scoreboard and hearing a chorus of boos from the crowd of 71,005 fans at M&T Bank Stadium, Tomlin smiled.

The Ravens went on to kick a field goal, the third of five by Justin Tucker, and held on for a 22-20 victory over the Steelers.

In the second quarter, another special teams miscue – a botched field goal attempt – led to another Ravens field goal.

Trailing 7-0, the Steelers set up for a 50-yard field goal attempt by Shaun Suisham. Greg Warren’s snap was fine, but Suisham appeared to arrive at the ball before holder Mat McBriar, the team’s punter, had even placed the ball on the ground.

McBriar quickly handed the ball to Suisham, who was tackled for a 12-yard loss by Jeromy Miles while trying to run around right end.

The Ravens capitalized on the miscue as Tucker booted a 43-yard field goal to give them a 10-0 halftime lead.
