Commodores, Avella meet in key TCS game
There will be a lot on the line tonight when Frazier hosts Avella in week six of the high school football season. The Tri-County South Conference battle features the undefeated Eagles, who own the longest winning streak in the WPIAL, and the Commodores who look to stay in touch with the top echelon.
With just three weeks left in the season, and both teams still having to face undefeated Beth-Center (5-0, 5-0), this match-up is very important to both teams.
Nick Kusich leads Avella rushing with 7 touchdowns and 315 yards. Eagles’ QB Santino Paris had 732 yards passing, with Zach Thompson as his favorite target.
Frazier’s Michael Luce has 251 receiving yards, making him quarterback, Charlie Manack’s favorite target. Manack has over 850 yards passing.
“Avella’s a good team, we’re expecting a good match-up,” Frazier coach, Mike Steeber said.”They’ve got good size up front and most of their team is back from last year,” Steeber added. “They’ve got a lot of confidence.”
Elsewhere in the Class A Tri-County South Conference, Geibel Catholic will visit Carmichaels, Beth-Center will host Jefferson-Morgan, and the Maples will travel to Bentworth, all three have a 7 p.m. kickoff.Connellsville plays at Penn-Trafford at 7:30 p.m. in the Class AAAA Foothills Conference. In Class AAA Big Nine Conference play, Albert Gallatin travels to Ringgold, Laurel Highlands host Thomas Jefferson, and Belle Vernon will host Trinity, all with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. In the Class AA Interstate Conference, Brownsville will host Washington and Waynesburg Central will visit Charleroi, with kickoffs at 7 p.m.
Also in the Interstate Conference, Southmoreland will host Greensburg Central Catholic at California (Pa.) with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Uniontown will host Mars in a non-section game at 7:30 p.m.
Also in a non-section match-up, West Greene will travel to Vincentian Academy with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
