West Chester downs Cal U, 38-31
The Vulcans scored with 38 seconds remaining in the game, but it wasn’t enough as California (Pa.) lost to West Chester, 38-31, Saturday on the road in PSAC play.
Trey Johnson scored on a 7-yard touchdown pass from James Harris and Cody Nuzzo’s extra point was successful to draw the Vulcans to within a touchdown.
West Chester opened a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, but the Vulcans (3-2) responded with Nuzzo’s 33-yard field goal and Harris’ one-yard dive into the end zone in the final six minutes of the half.
West Chester extended its lead to 28-17 with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. The Vulcans’ Terrell Roberson got one of those scores back in a hurry when he returned the kick for a 100-yard touchdown after West Chester’s first score.
West Chester (5-0) added a 23-yard field goal at 9:49 of the fourth quarter, only to have the Vulcans respond with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Mike Williams.
Rondell White’s one-yard touchdown run at 1:39 turned out the be the final difference in the win.
Harris completed 16-of-31 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns. Kowan Scott caught four passes for a game-high 118 yards.
