Slippery Rock edges Vulcans, 2-0

1 min read

Stephen Donnelly scored both goals and goalkeeper Chris Zier made the lead stand Monday in Slippery Rock’s 2-0 PSAC victory over visiting California (Pa.).

The Rock is now 2-1-0 in conference games and 7-1-1 overall. The Vulcans slip to 1-1-1 in the PSAC and 4-5-1 overall.

Peter Boylan and Thad Madzelonka set up Donnelly’s first goal, and Joshua Gray’s fifth assist of the season put Donnelly in position for the second.

Zier made several keys saves, including turning aside the Vulcans’ leading scorer Jeffrey Kyei twice, to preserve the shutout and lower his goals against average to .46.

The Vulcans held a slight edge in shots on goal, 8-7.

California’s Scott Campbell was injured late in the second half after a collision.
