Geibel football forfeits game

Geibel Catholic will forfeit its football game at Beth-Center, scheduled for Friday night, due to a lack of players.

The team suffered injuries, including a concussion and a back injury, during last Friday’s 81-0 loss at Frazier that brought down its number of healthy players to 12.

PIAA rules stipulate that a football team must have at least 13 healthy players in order to compete.

“We can’t play this weekend, based on numbers,” Geibel Catholic athletic director Shawn Holup said. “Our next game, at Vincentian, is still on for the following week.”

Holup also noted that Frazier handled the game “really well,” despite the lopsided score.

The Commodores scored all 81 of its points in the first half and the two coaches agreed to play two one-minute quarters in the second half, with Frazier opting to take knees when it had the ball.

Frazier scored two safeties and returned two punts for touchdowns in the first quarter and added three interception returns for touchdowns in the second quarter.
