Connellsville wins FCCA tournament
Connellsville defeated Albert Gallatin to cap off an unbeaten record, and won the 2013 Fayette County Coaches’ Association Volleyball Tournament.
The Lady Falcons breezed through pool play, finishing with big wins in all of their matches. After a bit of a close match against Uniontown in the semi-finals, the Falcons settled in, and defeated the Colonials, 25-12, 25-20 to clinch the championship.
Outside hitter Maria Meridino led the way, with eight kills in the final. Middle Isabella Sigado contributed four kills and a block of her own.
Coach Casey O’Brien was proud of his team, and believes this tournament is a springboard to the next step.
“It was one of our goals to win this tournament,” said O’Brien. “We captured that goal, and now we have to play well the rest of the season to get into the playoffs.”
In the other semifinal, Albert Gallatin defeated Geibel Catholic 25-20 to clinch a spot in the championship game.
Waynesburg Central defeated Carmichaels 23-25, 25-13, and 15-13 to win the silver bracket.
