Uniontown and Jefferson-Morgan took advantage of a break in the section schedule Monday afternoon for a non-section match at Duck Hollow Golf Club, won by the Red Raiders, 207-238.

Uniontown’s Luke Wallace was medalist with a 4-over 39 on his home course, the site of next week’s Section 2-AAA qualifying tournament.

Teammate Callahan Abel had the low score in the clubhouse through the first two foursomes with a 5-over 40. Tyler Frazee (42), Joey Carpeal (43), and Chris Kovach (43) closed out the scoring for the Red Raiders.

Bobby Newman’s 47 was not used.

Uniontown coach Aaron Scott had a plan for the non-section match against the Rockets, and was pleased his squad met his expectations. The Red Raiders enter the second half of the Section 2-AAA schedule in a first-place tie with Belle Vernon with one loss apiece. Laurel Highlands, who hosts the Leopards this afternoon, is one match out of first in the loss column.

“Today was about looking toward the section,” explained Scott, whose squad improved to 7-2 overall. “Since Callahan (Abel) is in the starting lineup, there was competition among the team to see who was going to play in the sectional. I have a position to fill for Tuesday.”

Gillian Alexander and Chaz Mattish shared low-score honors for the Rockets at 6-over 41. Cameron Kromer (50), Ryan Siebert (52), and Jake Guthrie (54) closed out the scoring for the visitors. Gavin Koratich’s 55 was not used.

For Jefferson-Morgan coach John Curtis, the non-section match was a chance for the Rockets to play a different team on a different course, as well as renew friendships.

“We like to come over here and play another course. Different looks make them a better golfer,” said Curtis, whose Rockets go to 6-3 overall. “The scores are in the back of the mind. Duck Hollow gives them a different challenge, different shots.

“It’s the camaraderie of Aaron (Scott) and (Albert Gallatin’s) Bernie (Wydo), too. It’s good to get back together with them.”

The Rockets travel to Mon Valley Country Club this afternoon for a Section 8-AA match against Charleroi.
