Wallace cards record-setting 30 in Red Raiders’ victory

Maybe Luke Wallace should golf feeling under the weather more often.

The Uniontown senior finished with a record-setting 5-under 30 at Cedarbrook Golf Course’s Red course Monday afternoon to lead the Red Raiders to a 200-220 Section 2-AAA victory over Ringgold.

The previous mark was 4-under, shot twice by Greg Franko during his stellar career. Wallace had birdies on the first three holes, as well as No. 5 and No. 9. He parred the other four holes.

Joey Carpeal shot 6-over 41 for the Red Raiders, while Callahan Abel, John Voyten, Chris Kovach and Devin Morrison all finished with 43.

Neil Hancock was the low man for the Rams with a 39.

Uniontown (8-2) remains alone atop the section standings at 7-1, with matches against Elizabeth-Forward (6-3), Belle Vernon, Connellsville (3-7), and Laurel Highlands (7-3) remaining.

Elizabeth-Forward 216, Albert Gallatin 232 — Elizabeth-Forward remained in the hunt for a Section 2-AAA playoff berth with a road victory over Albert Gallatin at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

The Warriors improve to 6-3 in the section, while the Colonials slip to 1-9 in the section and 1-11 overall.

The Colonials’ Tanner Kutek had medalist honors with a 3-over 38. Blake Reicholf (45), Zach Harkins (52), Seth Goletz (53), and Todd Eicher (44) also factored in the final score.

Mike Ragan and Dylan Shaffer shared low honors for Elizabeth-Forward with a 6-over 41.

Laurel Highlands 198, Connellsville 226 — Laurel Highlands matched its low score of the season Tuesday afternoon, defeating visiting Connellsville, 198-226, for a Section 2-AAA victory at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

The Mustangs remain in the hunt for a Section 2-AAA playoff berth, improving to 7-3. Connellsville slides to 3-7 in the section and 4-7 overall.

Jericho Swimmer led the way for the home team with a 1-under 34. Harison Laskey fired a 2-over 37. Cole Phillis (40), Kelsey Soom (42), and Natalie Kunkel (45) rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs.

Tanner Kirsch was the low man for the Falcons with a 7-over 35. Ryan Burkholder (43), Tyler McFadden (44), Colt Miller (45), and Jonathan Grinko (52) also counted in the final total.

Girls tennis

Brownsville 5, Jeannette 0 — The Lady Falcons lost only 11 games as the Brownsville girls tennis team swept past visiting Jeannette in Section 1-AA action.

Sari Yuhas lost just two games in winning No. 1 singles. Angie Braznok (1) and Kristie Pulla (7) completed the Brownsville singles sweep.

Gina Swetz and Julia Shumar lost just one game at No. 1 doubles, while Dolly Kromer and Casey Hawk won No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Falcons improve to 3-4 in the section and 4-4 overall, and still have an eye out for a playoff berth.

“We can’t lose in the second half, and someone else is going to have to lose,” said Brownsville coach Dan LoNigro.

The Lady Falcons can accomplish both of LoNigro’s assessments when they host Southmoreland on Thursday afternoon.

Girls volleyball

Carmichaels 3, Beth-Center 0 — The Carmichaels girls volleyball team took a break from section action in defeating visiting Beth-Center. The Lady Mikes won by the scores 25-20, 25-17 and 25-19.

Hannah Cutwright finished with six kills for the Lady Mikes (2-3). Abby Cutwright had nine service points. Lindsay Scott had a nice all-around performance with 18 service points and 18 assists. Katie Schooley added 10 service points.

Albert Gallatin 3, Brownsville 2 — Brownsville tied the match by winning the fourth set, but Albert Gallatin carried the play in the fifth and final set for a non-section victory.

Brownsville won the first set, 26-24, Albert Gallatin took the next two, 25-22, 25-20, and the Lady Falcons tied it up in the fourth set, 25-19. The Lady Colonials won the final set, 15-9.

Alie Seto had seven kills, while Maris Seto finished with 10 service points, six kills and three blocks. Tori Dubos added six kills and nine blocks.

Brownsville slips to 1-4 overall.

Girls soccer

Trinity 7, Albert Gallatin 1 — Bailey Swart scored a hat trick to lead Trinity to a Section 4-AAA victory over visiting Albert Gallatin.

Madison Hornak netted two goals, while Jenna Becker and Alexa Sacheck both scored a goal.

Kaitlyn Flowers scored the lone goal for Albert Gallatin (0-4-0, 0-7-0).

Boys soccer

California 2, Albert Gallatin 1, OT — California scored in overtime to secure a road victory over Albert Gallatin.

California improves to 2-3-0 overall, while the Colonials fall to 1-6-0.
