Points contests loom large at Roaring Knob
Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex heated up Saturday night as the racing season points contests loom large.
King of the Knob, Tim Senic, led every circuit of the Hoosier Tire Super Late Model event. Michael Lake grabbed another win for the High Gear Speed Shop RUSH Late Model division.
Deana Groves earned her fourth Knob Krause Electric E Mod feature this season. Joe Kelley was awarded the Penn Summit Insurance Agency Street Stock flag.
John Redshaw crossed the line first once again for the Fort Necessity Garage Chargers, and the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners win went to a Knob newcomer, Robert Pease.
Senic now leads Scott Rhodes in Super Late points by 33. He had a great night, winning the heat, the pole and after stabilizing from the contact with Mel Minnick, Jr. on lap one, he got ahead of the 22 drivers, winning his 5th Knob 2013 feature.
Austin Hubbard hit the wall on lap 21 as he tried to run down Senic in lapped traffic. This put Hubbard and Robby Marhefka out of the race and Rhodes came in second. D.J. Troutman took third. Heat winners: Senic, Minnick and Hubbard.
Back and forth they fought for top spot, but it was young Michael Lake who earned the checkered after he and Rick Singleton entertained fans in the RUSH Late Model event.
The 20-lap feature win is Lake’s fourth at the Knob this year. Lake led the first three laps, but Singleton moved by car #27 to take the top spot on lap four. Lake used a cross-over move on the18th circuit that took him over the finish line, winning by a car length. Singleton grabbed second and Chad McClellan came in third. Heat winners: Lake and Singleton.
Deana Groves won her fourth E-Mod Knob feature this year, but said, she may be hanging up her racing hat after this season to concentrate on her family and studies. Darren Tarabori followed Groves to take second. Points leader, Denny Nakutis grabbed third. Heat winner: Groves
Although Greg Hauger led every lap, Joe Kelley took first in the Street Stock contest with points leader Jim Byers claiming second. Scott Bittinger finished third. Bittinger and Greg Hauger won the heat races. John Redshaw snagged his fifth checkered flag this year in the Charger event. Justin Howell led most of the race when J.T. Baird got by him on the 9th circuit.
Redshaw gained on Baird on lap 11 just before Baird had to head to the pits with mechanical problems. Redshaw led the last lap for the win. Howell came in second, and Kyle Burkholder, points leader, earned third. Heat winners: Baird and Redshaw. The Roadrunner feature saw Robert Pease lead every lap in his first race at Roaring Knob. Ryan Peer crossed the finish line second, and Paul Koffler, Jr., points leader, grabbed third. Heat winners: Andrew Pluta and Pease
Round Three of the Powder Puff races, 2013 winners: Stacy Tressler in Jason Gibbs’s car; Mindy Miller in Robert Miller’s car and Angel Hill in Jeremy Hill’s car.
