Mount Pleasant is now alone at No. 1 in Section 1-AA after its 8-1 win at Uniontown in girls soccer action.

The Lady Vikings’ win combined with Southmoreland’s 2-1 victory over Yough put Mount Pleasant (5-1, 6-4) one game ahead of the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Raiders (0-6, 1-8) struggled Monday evening. With four starters on the bench, they allowed the Lady Vikings to take control early in the match.

Freshman Lexi Grosser (12) scored for Mount Pleasant just 1:06 into the game, followed by a goal from senior Jordan Toohey (16) less than 10 minutes later.

Lady Vikings freshman Anna Billey (8) also scored early in the first half, followed closely by another goal from Toohey.

Freshman Courtney Harvey scored for Mount Pleasant with just over 19 minutes left in the half, taking the score to 5-0.

Mount Pleasant came back from halftime ready to play. The Lady Vikings scored on a corner kick from senior Rachel Salai (2) at 31:26.

Toohey scored her third goal of the night less than a minute later for Mount Pleasant.

Uniontown’s defense stepped it up, keeping the ball out of the goal until the clock ran down to 3:15. That’s when the Lady Vikings scored on another corner kick, this time from freshman Emily Donitzen (9).

Freshman Charli Sublett (6) scored the first goal for Uniontown with just 1:56 left in the game.

“We have four girls hurt and not playing,” Lady Raiders head coach Greg Peck, said. “We’ve got a lot of young girls out there.”

“The way these girls played will help us out (against Waynesburg Central),” Peck said.

Uniontown will host Waynesburg Central on Wednesday, while Mount Pleasant will travel to Greensburg Salem.
