Local trio misses cut in WPIAL Class AA golf finals
Michael Luketich was one of five golfers vying for the two final berths into the state playoffs Tuesday afternoon, but the California junior came up short in the playoff in the WPIAL Class AA Boys Individual Golf Championship hosted by Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
The top 16 finishers advanced out of the district final into the PIAA Western Regional at Tom’s Run on Oct. 15.
Luketich had the best finish of the three local golfers in the WPIAL final at 12-over 84 (42-42).
Beth-Center’s Taylor Dingle finished with a 16-over 88 (47-41), and Carmichaels freshman Liam Shea shot a 17-over 89 (43-46).
Two Section 8-AA golfers, both from Charleroi, advanced to the PIAA regional. Gunnar Riley tied for first with Leechburg’s Matt Barto at 3-over 75, but Barto won the playoff for the gold medal. The Cougars’ Mike Kondratick was one of the golfers to advance out of the five-way tie at 84.
Mount Pleasant’s Nathan Irgan shot a 94 and Alex Kraisinger finished with a 106.
Burgettstown’s Cody Dobbin finished alone in third with a 77.
Also advancing to the western regional were Sewickley Academy’s Keenan Hickton (78), Anthony Muscato (80) and Sam Duerr (81), Burgettown’s Owen Miller (78), Serra Catholic’s Max Kaminsky (79) and Dan Vecchio (81), Winchester Thurston’s Will Robinson (79), Riverside’s Jonathan Palinski (80), Bishop Canevin’s Sam Smallhoover (80), Laurel’s Nick Peluso (80), Quaker Valley’s Alex Tanabe (81), and Eden Christian Academy’s Carter Ehms (84).
