Lady Falcons rally past Derry, 3-2
Kristie Bulla and Gina Swetz survived two tiebreakers Monday afternoon, rallying the Brownsville girls tennis team to an exciting 3-2 Section 1-AA road victory at Derry.
Bulla and Swetz won the first set of their No. 2 doubles match against Abby Cox and Emma Crocker, 7-6 (1), but trailed 5-1 in the second set. The Lady Falcon pair won the next five games, but Cox and Crocker forced a tiebreaker. Bulla and Swetz needed extra time in the tiebreaker, but won, 8-6, to clinch a victory in the final road match of the season.
Mackenzie Swords got things rolling for Brownsville (4-7, 5-7) with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles over Heather Ramsey. The No. 1 doubles team of Becca Bochna and Peyton Jacobs tied the match by defeating Natalie Sarnese and Paige Lupyan in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (6).
The Lady Falcons’ Sari Yuhas dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles, and Angie Braznok suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 2 singles.
Brownsville closes the section schedule Thursday when it hosts California.
