Red Raiders defeat Yough
Colby Simmons hit a tie-breaking, two-run single and Zack Helisek went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs to help Uniontown defeat host Yough, 11-8, in a back-and-forth Section 2-AAA baseball game Tuesday.
Zack Stashick homered for Uniontown and also pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the save.
The Red Raiders led 4-0, fell behind 6-4 and surged back ahead 8-6 before the Cougars tied it with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Luke Wallace was hit by a pitch and Danny Sparrow reached on an error to start the sixth for Uniontown. Tyler Frazee bunted the runners over and both scored on Simmons’ single.
The Red Raiders (2-3, 1-0) added an insurance run in the seventh.
Wallace allowed eight runs in five innings in earning the win and contributed two RBIs and a single with the bat.
C.J. Vargo took the loss in relief for Yough.
It was the Red Raiders’ first game since returning from their Myrtle Beach trip and the section opener for both teams.
Uniontown travels to Mount Pleasant today for a 4 p.m. game.
