Sanner finishes first
Seton Hill’s Mallory Sanner, reigning Division II champion in the javelin, finished first Saturday in the Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond.
The Uniontown graduate’s winning throw was 39.81 meters (130-7).
Belle Vernon graduate Tyler Pirilla, running at Duquesne, finished 29th in the 100 with a time of 11.43 seconds and 38th in the 200 in 23.48.
Friend sets record
California University of Pa. freshman Julie Friend broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday in the Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond.
The Uniontown graduate qualified for the PSAC Championships after she placed fifth with a school-record time of 11:25.79, nearly 16 seconds faster than the previous mark. The previous record was set by Stacy Wright in 2002.
Fellow freshman Summer Hill broke the school record in the 1,500 by placing seventh, with a time of 4:35.0.
The provisional time for the NCAA Championships is the fastest to date in the PSAC. Hill also qualified for the PSAC Championships with a sixth-place finish in 2:17.19.
The Brownsville grad joined Shannon Bridges, Allison Hall and Julia Kubica to finish the 3,200 relay in sixth place with a time of 9:59.62. Simcoke finished 43rd in the 800 in 2:29.96.
PAC honors Guiser
Geneva junior Josh Guiser has been honored as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
The Frazier graduate had individual first-place finishes in the 100 (11.16) and 200 (22.84), and helped Geneva’s 400 relay team (43.23) to first in the Golden Tornadoes’ home meet.
