Rohanna shoots 1-under in first round

By Jim Downey jdowney@heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

Robert Rohanna finished under par in the first round of the Roberto De Vincenzo Invitational Copa NEC Thursday, but was right at the cutline entering today’s second round.

Rohanna carded a 1-under 71 and is stuck in a huge logjam in 55th place. The top 50 (and ties) advance to the third round.

The first-round lead sits at 7-under with four golfers tied atop the leaderboard.

“Yeah, it wasn’t to bad. I didn’t have very good bogeys,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “I caught two flyers out of the rough that went long, that never helps!

“I left some shots out there, but maybe tomorrow I’ll get it all together.”

Rohanna went out in 2-under 34 with three birdies and an opening bogey. He played the back nine in 1-over 37 with two bogeys and one par.

The Waynesburg native understands what he has to do in today’s second round to make it through to the weekend.

“If you hit good tee shots, you will have a lot of wedges. And, the par-5s are pretty accessible, so it’s not that hard. Two of the par-4s are drivable,” said Rohanna. “If I hit it the same and make a few more putts, then it well be successful.

“I know it sounds pretty obvious. Yep, it’s plain and simple. Just golf.”
